All-Ireland Overall Championships 2010

The inaugral IFDA All-Ireland Overall Championships will take place in Gonzaga College at 2pm on Sunday October 3rd. The IFDA Committee feels that this gives players from across the country a chance to compete in some new disc sports that we have not focused on in the past. We hope that this event will grow in stature over the coming years.

The events on offer will be the following:
  • Double Disc Court
  • Accuracy
  • Distance
  • Throw Run Catch
  • Maximum Time Aloft
Double Disc Court
Commonly known as DDC, Double Disc Court is played by two teams of two players each and two discs. There are two courts, 13m x 13m and 17m apart; each is defended by one of the teams. Two discs are simultaneously thrown back and forth by the teams. There are several ways to score a point or points:

- when the disc touches the ground within the court of the other team and stays there
- when the other team touches both discs at the same time (two points scored)
- when a disc touches the ground outside the court the other team scores a point
Usually a game is played over one or more sets of 15 points each. Full WFDF DDC Rules.

    Accuracy
Each player throws the disc 28 times - 4 throws from each of the 7 different stations. Stations are from side angles and from straight in front. The world records are: Men - 25/28. women - 19/28.

    Distance
Players throw as far as they can from behind a line. The distance from the line to where the disc touches the ground is measured. Players get five attempts and the best one counts. The world records are: Men - 250 metres. Women - 162 metres.

    Maximum Time Aloft (MTA)
Each player's throw is timed when in the air and the catch must be made in one hand. Players get five attempts and the best one counts. The world records are: Men - 16.72 seconds. Women - 11.81 seconds.

    Throw, Run, Catch (TRC)
The distance from the throw to the catch is measured. Again, the catch must be with on hand. Players get five attempts and the best one counts. The world record s are: Men - 94.00 metres. Women - 60.02 metres.
